About Kelly B. Horak

Founder of CheckDragonfly | Software Engineer | AI/ML Developer | Data Analytics

I am Kelly B. Horak, founder of CheckDragonfly and Dovewood Capital, with a professional background spanning finance, business analytics, software engineering, artificial intelligence, and data-driven product development.

My work brings together financial and analytical expertise with hands-on software engineering to develop practical technology solutions that transform complex information into meaningful insights. With 24 years of business and analytical experience, I focus on building applications that combine data, intelligent analysis, transparent decision-making, and intuitive user experiences.

I earned my Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from Texas Christian University (TCU) in 1996 and subsequently completed the Professional Certificate in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning through The University of Texas at Austin’s McCombs School of Business, earning a 4.0 GPA.

My technical experience includes application development, JavaScript, HTML, Python-oriented development, SQL, REST API integration, data analysis, AI-assisted applications, predictive modeling, interactive dashboards, and business intelligence tools such as Tableau and Power BI. I also work with cloud-based application infrastructure, database integration, application testing, deployment, and production troubleshooting.

Building CheckDragonfly

CheckDragonfly represents the application of these disciplines to an increasingly important problem: understanding the credibility and authenticity of online accounts.

I developed CheckDragonfly as an account intelligence and evaluation platform designed to help users examine account characteristics, available activity data, behavioral evidence, and other relevant signals before deciding how much confidence to place in an online account.

The platform combines API-based data collection, structured evidence processing, analytical scoring, and AI-assisted interpretation. Its development emphasizes explainable assessments, evidence-based conclusions, clear presentation of findings, and appropriate distinctions between verified information, uncertain signals, and conclusions that cannot be established from the available data.

My work on CheckDragonfly spans the broader software development lifecycle, including system architecture, scoring methodologies, backend services, data persistence, interface design, evaluation workflows, testing, deployment, and ongoing product improvement.

The objective is straightforward: make complex account intelligence more understandable, useful, and accessible.

Beyond CheckDragonfly

My broader development work includes The Contrarian Layer, a decision-support application exploring how structured questions, alternative perspectives, and AI-assisted analysis can help people examine assumptions and make more considered decisions.

Across these projects, my approach is consistent: start with a meaningful business problem, establish a disciplined analytical foundation, build the technology needed to address it, and create an interface that makes the resulting insights useful to real people.

I am particularly interested in the intersection of software engineering, artificial intelligence, data analytics, and practical business applications. I believe effective technology should do more than produce an answer. It should help users understand the reasoning, evaluate the supporting information, and make better-informed decisions.

My Approach

I combine the financial discipline of my business background with the technical curiosity of a hands-on software developer. I value analytical rigor, transparent methodologies, thoughtful user experience design, and continuous improvement.

Through Dovewood Capital and CheckDragonfly, I continue to explore how software, data, and AI can be applied to real-world challenges—creating products that are technically grounded, commercially relevant, and designed around the people who use them.
